A book-by-book guide for parents whose kids read above their age.

The problem

Your kid can decode a chapter book years above their age. Whether they can handle that book — its violence, grief, sexual content, cruelty, dread — is a separate question, and one no reading-level system answers.

How it works

Each Graduated Reader card scores a book on two independent axes:

Decoding
How hard is the text to read aloud or read silently?
Intensity
How emotionally demanding is the content, with the specific beats called out?

Together the two axes form a grid. Knowing where on the grid a book sits — and which beats inside it might be too much, too early — lets you stock your shelves with confidence.
